There is no particular high or low season in Hong Kong, except for maybe Chinese New Year which falls in either January or February when rooms are more scarse. Budget accommodation can be found in Kowloon rather than on the island itself and in particular Tsim Sha Tsui has a number of good places to stay. Cheap Hong Kong Accommodation Travel Guide
The Hong Kong International Youth Hostel’s are exceptionally good value and have clean rooms with washing and cooking facilities but they are very popular and you need to book well in advance – you will also need to be a member of the International Youth Hostel Federation.
Hostels offering dormitory accommodation are the cheapest option, followed by guesthouses which tend to have small rooms with tatty interiors. Always check the room before you hand over any money and make sure the air-conditioning works, you’ll be glad of it when the humidity kicks in.
